Do you give Christmas gifts to your mail carrier?
Before moving to our new neighborhood, I had all mail carriers stereotyped. Ok, I take that back, I had almost everyone who is in the parcel and package delivery industry stereotyped.
My stereotypes are as follows:
UPS – I thought it was a prerequisite that they were all HOT! From 25-65, I’ve never seen a UPS guy (or gal for that matter) that wasn’t ruff, tuff, buff, and just HOT!
FEDEX – I always thought these guys were the most absolute cranky people ever. I chalked it up to either not so great pay or the fact that they never seemed to get much right!
USPS – Until a few months ago, I’d never met a mail carrier who was friendly, cared to take their iPod earbuds out long enough to actually listen to what they had to say, and they had definitely never bent the rules or even cared about what I had to say! I also thought they were just plum overpaid and careless.
That is…. until I moved here. Andy and I send packages all the time. I always submit a request for carrier pickup, and the lady who runs our route has to be the sweetest, most caring individual I have met in a service environment.
Over the summer, we noticed that she was there for about a week or so, and then random postal carriers would deliver and pick up. It went on this way for a month and a half. Once I finally noticed that she had returned for good, I stepped outside one day and let her know that we’d missed her, and we were glad to see her back. Apparently, her mother got very ill, so she took a month and a half off to be with her and care for her. Her mother passed away, and it was a very hard time in her life – but she came back to work with a smile as if she enjoys every minute of it.
I occasionally leave her native cigarettes canada or small gifts when we set a package out, and it never fails! She will knock on our door and let us know just how much she appreciates it.
This year, we are going to gift our mail carrier for the very first time ever. What we’ll gift her for Christmas, I’m not sure yet, but we’re looking forward to it!
Have you ever gifted your mail carrier?
Yes! Last year I left a $10 gift card in our box, and I will do so this year too. Apparently USPS states you cannot give anything worth more than $20 to them. I’m not a HUGE fan of her, but she has been kind when we have spoken.
A few years ago we had an amazing UPS woman (she wasn’t all that hot though lol) and we would have long conversations at the door and I always gave her goodies. She was one of a kind.
Oh man, really? I wonder if I can give her a few smaller things.. I was thinking about giving her some Avon stuff.. maybe break it up into a couple of days!
I have always befriended not only my USPS carrier, but my UPS and FedEx guys as well. Thankfully, with the exception of one, I have always had fantastic delivery peeps who have taken good care of me, and I have done the same for them. I have gifted Starbucks Coffee – both gift certs and actual bags of coffee in mugs, some of my products that I sold (which of course was why I have mail carriers here all the time) and other little odds and ends. I even made cookies one time – but since it is no secret I am not a great cook, I tend to stick to the store bought stuff so they will feel truly appreciated, LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Hell no. Maybe I would if he would actually pick my mail up when its in the box to go out. He just passes by.. and then I’ll get a box stuffed with mail, some with 2 week old post marks. Ive made calls to the postmaster, and all I get is lip service. If my post carrier wants a present, he can suck a fart out of my ass while I sing Merry Christmas to him!
Yeah we’ve had some pretty bad ones in the past..
Um, no…but it’s mutual. Heck my birthday was Sunday and he didn’t even deliver me any birthday cards. That’s his fault right? Surely my friends had remembered my birthday…..hmm…maybe not.
This is a wonderful idea! My mail carrier is great and will back track when she realized I’m not home to leave my packages at a family member’s house instead of on my porch. I LOVE HER!
I never have but maybe I should.
I dont think I have ever seen our mail carrier to be honest…hmmmm
I used to leave a gift in the mailbox. it was usually on Saturday since that is when i was home.
then one year, I was home during the week and actually saw the lady that came during the week and it was different than the lady I had been giving the gift to all those Saturdays !
Come to find out the reg. carrier didn’t work on Saturday !
Then I felt jipped that the Saturday lady always took my gift and never told me she was the relief pitcher ! now that I don’t work I got it figured out !
sheesh
