I love Amazon.  One of the things that I have learned along the way is that reading reviews are EXTREMELY important if you’re going to buy something you can’t really lay your hands on (aka.. online purchases).

This morning, as I was gearing up to post today’s “30 Days of Mom-to-Be post, I decided to check feedback and reviews for the book from Ina May Gaskin – Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth.  I love the book, but I wanted to see what others had to say, and I was actually surprised that there were any negative views.  So I clicked on the first negative review.  The third sentence in the second paragraph of  T. McGoughy’s review made me chuckle.

I think childbirth has changed a lot since the 70s and would have preferred to read more up to date stories.

Hawk, hours after Natural Childbirth.

All I can think is… Really?  We’re not talking about hospital births, or births with interventions.  We’re talking about natural, at home or at a birthing center childbirth with a midwife who views birth as primitive and pure, as it should be.

I would totally have to say that I think this is the most uneducated, dumbest quote I’ve ever read when it comes to natural childbirth.

I can see cell phones, computers, television, cars, etc. being different since the 70’s, and sure, it’s safe to say that I’d prefer to read more up-to-date stories on those things, but natural childbirth?  I’m thinking it’s safe to say that things really aren’t much different now than when Eve gave birth to Cain and Abel.
