Have you ever wondered just how many loads of laundry you do per year on average?  What about how many times most people mow their yard?  Check these out!


Flush the Toilets – According to the World Toilet Organization (WTO), the average person uses a toilet 2,500 times year!  That’s six to eight times a day, but if you have boys like mine, they don’t flush every time!

Wash the Clothes – ChaCha says that Americans do an estimated 116 loads of laundry per year, per person.  I would estimate that with a cloth diapered baby’s total is around 150 loads per year.

Mow the Lawn – While the average family with a yard mows every two weeks for half the year, many with fertile yards and warmer climates mow once per week.  Average lawn- 13-15 times per year.   Fertile/Warmer climate lawn – 40 times per year. (the latter would be us)

Run the Dishwasher – Per the Consortium for Energy Efficiency the average household of 5 or more runs the dishwasher 384 times a year.

Go to the Grocery Store – A Food Marketing Institute and Nielsen survey showed that an average family takes 98 trips to the grocery store each year!

Fill up Gas Tank – For every $10 the typical household earns before taxes, almost a full dollar now goes toward gas, a 40 percent bigger bite than normal. USAToday Report. A household of $50,000 per year income typically spends $5000 per year in gas, depending on how many vehicle you drive and usage. (my husbands fuel efficient car drinks about $150 per month – driven on a regularly basis, my van would drink about $250 per month)



Watch TV – Nielsen surveys say that the average american watches more than 151 hours of television per month!  That’s more than 1,812 hours per year which translates to more than 75.5 solid days per year.

Catching some Zzz’s – The average baby sleeps 14-18 hours a day in the first year of life.  That’s an average 5,840 hours per year which means out of 365 days, babies sleep through roughly 243 solid days. After they become adults, this is cut in half on average.

Change your Clothes – On average, from infancy to adulthood, people change clothes 3-4 times per day. This is an average of about 1277 times per year (hence the need for the laundry fact!)

Surf the Web – Cnet says that the average internet user is online approximately 13 hours per day.  4,745 hours per year is a little over 197 and half days per year! That’s almost double and a half  the time spent watching TV!
