Military Families Forced to Leave Walgreens | Express Script Pulls Contract
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I’m not a fan of insurance. I never have been. America has so many problems, and the insurance situation is absolutely ridiculous. I’m not saying I’d rather go to socialized healthcare, but something has got to give with our current healthcare problems.
Take for instance, the current situation with Walgreens and Express Script. Express Script is a pharmacy network provider, and for the past year, Walgreens tried to negotiate a contract renewal with them so that many of their current prescription customers in the network will continue to be able to fill their prescriptions. Express Scripts failed to come to an agreement, so millions of customers are left to take their business elsewhere.
More than 6 million of those customers – US Military families. You guessed it. Tricare, the United States Military insurance provider is under the Express Script Network, and now, the many of these families are left feeling inconvenienced and upset at the thought of being forced to change pharmacies!
Now, because the companies have parted ways, Walgreens is reaching out to those affected by the split by offering a Walgreens Prescription Savings Club that offers families discount prices on prescriptions which includes 8,000 brand-name and generic medications. The $10 per year per family ($5 per individual) membership also offers discounts on pet prescriptions, nebulizers, diabetic supplies, and more.
I think it’s an admirable move on the part of Walgreens, but why? Why must they be forced to take these measures? It’s hard enough to make ends meet in this economy, and for a company to pull a contract that affects so many people is beyond reason to me. Not only are customers having to being new relationships with new pharmacies, but the pharmacy will lose money as well.
Offer your support for the families tied up in this mess as well as Walgreens in their efforts to help families regardless of the Express Script blow by following Walgreens on Twitter and liking Walgreens on Facebook.
Together, we can make a difference.
In June of last year, Walgreens unilaterally announced it would be leaving the Express Scripts network. Since then, we have worked with our clients and members to ensure a smooth transition to other convenient, lower-cost pharmacies. The good news for Express Scripts members, including Tricare beneficiaries, is that there are 56,000 other pharmacies available nationwide. A vast majority of our members have easily switched to pharmacies that are ready, willing and able to serve them.
