Fruit Flies, don’t bother me! | How to trap fruit flies!
It’s that time of year. Not so scorching temperatures outside and more fresh fruits and vegetables in the house so everyone can lose those winter pounds before summer gets here!
Are you running around swatting and clapping like a crazy person?
Yes, we have a fruit fly problem. From the looks of my Facebook feed, so does everyone else! Here is what worked for us last night, so we set more out today!
This type of trap collected dozens of these nasty boogers overnight!
- Funnel or paper made into a funnel
- Jar or Cup
- Old Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar, Old Wine (or anything appealing to fruit flies)
- Orange Peel (optional)
I just left this out over night, and we woke up this morning, there were a lot in there!
Because I don’t have another funnel, we just rolled up a piece of paper! This one seems to work better during the day for us!
We’ve found that this works better at night while there aren’t little ones running around the house disturbing the traps!
After the trap is full:
When your trap is nice an full of flies, grab a plastic sack (with no holes) and slowly put it over the trap (you may have flies lingering on the lid), and the lift the funnel. The flies will fly up into the bag, and you can either take them outside and let them go, or dispose of the bag. Your choice!
This isn’t going to get RID of them, as you need to find the source of the problem. This is to get rid of the swarm around your sink, stove, and trashcans!
Did you know that fruit flies love sinks? Try filling your sink with hot water and a cup of vinegar and letting it run down the drain! This will kill the flies and their eggs.
Also, make sure you clean out the drip pan under your fridge as well as around the burners on your stove.
(We still can’t find the source of our problem, so I’m betting it’s the sink!)
Where they came from, no one knows!
We’ve searched the house high and low.
Almost invisible, but annoying in flight.
Fruit flies, you’ll meet your doom tonight!!
