Flats Challenge Question of the Day
Dirty Diaper Laundry asks: Why did you decide to take the Flats and Handwashing Challenge?
Between the Kids replies: We decided to do the Flats and Handwashing Challenge, again this year, because after the challenge last year, we have converted to mostly flats and covers. It’s easy, cheap, and lots of fun to diaper Jett in flats! There are so many different ways to fold the flats, and washing is so much easier. We don’t have a long wash routine, and we never really have an issue with funk (unless I go without washing for a longer period of time!).
Not only have we converted, but I’ve also help spread the flat love to our local Houston Cloth Diapers group. We have several flat families in the area, and it’s a great way to let people know that anyone can cloth diaper their babies at any time with anything from their home!
Find out more about what I like about flats in a post I did for KellyWels.com – Flat Cloth Diapers – Compare Cost to Fitteds.
Flats and Handwashing Challenge Day 1
Today, I am a sick mama home with three sick boys. I started feeling bad on Saturday, and when we got home from an annual event that my husband helps sponsor, I felt pretty crummy. After Jett got sick all down Andy’s back, the floor, and himself, I tried to resist, but failed. I was sick all night, all day yesterday, and I’m still pretty yuck today. Braxton got sick over at a friend’s house, and Hawk started feeling it last night.
The good news is, this year, Jett is in WAY less diapers, and I’ll probably change him more, just for the sake of pictures and adding other flats to the pile! But, this means that the handwashing part will be a LOT easier!
If you remember, last year, we were in transition… living with my parents while our house was ready. This year, we’re in our own home, and I love that I have a clothesline!
So sorry for the crummy photos, but Jett is super clingy today, understandably. Here is what we have so far:
- Photo 1: Pad fold receiving blanket. This is what I use 99% of the time. It’s easy for anyone who is changing his diaper. Just lay it in, cover, and go.
- Photo 2: Origami fold receiving blanket.
- Photo 3: Neat fold with jelly roll. This is actually a piece of fabric that I cut out to make a flat but haven’t had the change to serge yet. This goes to show that you can use anything as a cloth diaper.
I will try to make a separate post with better photos. If not, I’ll make sure to have better ones tomorrow! Happy flat folding, everyone!
