Day seven of the Flats Challenge has finally come and gone for us!  I know, I’m a day late in posting the day seven post, but I did it!  I completed the challenge, and I loved it!

Flats Challenge Question of the Day

Dirty Diaper Laundry asks: What did you learn?  How did it go?

Between the Kids replies:  On the funny side, one of the things that I learned during this challenge is that I’m really no good at coming up with new folds!  The fact is, I don’t mind using everyone else’s folds!  My mission with this challenge wasn’t really to make new folds, or even try to utilize every fold that’s been made before.  My goal with this challenge has been to continue to spread the word that anyone CAN cloth diaper their baby.  Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity.

For me, the challenge went pretty well.  I don’t mind handwashing, and I don’t mind line drying.  What I don’t like is the way the diapers feel when they’ve air dried.  I like the comforts of my dryer.  I like soft diapers on my son’s bottom.

Flats Challenge

That said, there has been speculation that this challenge was too fun for those of us who are privileged enough to have the conveniences in life such as running water, washing machine, dryer, etc.  The fact of the matter is:  this challenge probably isn’t going to make it’s way to third world countries, and it may not even make it’s way into the homes of people who are unable to afford internet.  What it WILL do, however, is enlighten those we come in contact with, to the fact that using cheap flat cloth diapers, handwashing, and line drying is a viable option for families without an income or means for modern conveniences.  It also brings to light that in the event of an emergency situation or disaster, you have a viable option for diapering your baby.

Will I stop using my washer and dryer just because other’s around the world can’t? No, I won’t, but I will do my part to help to make sure that those who are unable to afford modern cloth diapers know that there are options that are cost effective and even free, as well as donate diapers to my local cloth diaper charity.

Flats Challenge

Thank you for following along during this year’s Flat Challenge!  I can’t say that you won’t see 1000 more of my son’s diapers in my FB, Instagram, to Twitter feeds, because that’s how I get the word out about cloth diapering!  You’d be surprised at how many people ask me (almost on a daily basis) about cloth diapers because they see my pics and my sons diapers while I’m out and about! 🙂
