Dreaming of a Keurig – I want to #BrewtheLove, too! | #coffee
Confession time. Jealousy has hit the Johnston household pretty hard lately. Well, it’s hit me, anyway. I know we’re not supposed to be jealous of other people’s belongings – but I am! In the past week, I have seen the name Keurig pop up in my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Email, RSS, StumbleUpon, and Pinterest feeds approximately 4,587 times. The good news is… they’re really hot and popular right now and they make a lot of people happy, happy, happy. The bad news is… I don’t have one, and that leaves me envious and Dreaming of a Keurig.
I can’t function without coffee. I’ve tried. With the gaggle of kids that I have and the amount of teenage hormones, stinky feet, and dirty diapers that I have to deal with, it’s needed. Very needed. I love a good cup of coffee. You know what I love more than a good cup of coffee? A convenient cup of coffee! Sometimes, I like it black, but most of the time, I put quite a bit of half and half in it (I usually ask for 5 creamers – the little cups that they give you at restaurants).
Most days, when I know I will be getting out and running errands in the morning, I don’t even make coffee. I usually run through the Sonic drive-thru and grab two large coffees. One for now, and one for later. I’ve decided that I’m not going to do that anymore for two reasons. 1. It costs me $4.09 for two cups of coffee which is ridiculous. 2. I’m boycotting Sonic because they take their smoke breaks right by the drive-thru window and the front door, and I think that is wrong.
Here’s my coffee set up, right now. I’m using an incomplete Corningware Cornflower Percolator that my grandmother gave me along with a small strainer. Why the strainer, you ask? Because my percolator is missing the lid, so when the water percolates up through the stem and into the basket, there is nothing keeping the grounds in the basket, therefore, if I don’t strain the coffee first, I end up eating my coffee. It’s literally a hot mess.
You see why I like to go out and get my coffee to go? I’ve even been known to stop by my parent’s house to grab a cup of coffee like I did this morning. (Don’t tell my mom I had two cups while I was there, today.) No coffee is not an option. Period.
Recently, I was chosen to be a part of blog blast campaign for single serve coffee. YAY! As the blogger, I was able to apply for one of two types of blog posts. I could receive product and compensation to actually review the K-cups (which I did not chose because I do not have a Keurig or any single serve coffee maker), or I could choose just to do an informational post about the product for compensation (which I chose, because I do not have a Keurig or any single serve coffee maker – responsible and reasonable, right?) .
Needless to say, I was happy to be chosen for the latter. HOWEVER, a short time after, I received a box of K-cups in the mail as an additional thank you for the program. This escalated the jealousy a bit. PERFECT – for people with a Keurig or other compatible single serve coffee makers. What do you think I did? Yep! I opened one of the K-cups, poured it into my percolator, and proceeded to make coffee. (They look kinda cool inside, if you’ve never opened one up. They actually have a built in filter.)
There’s a reason they’re made for the Keurig.
The coffee grounds were so fine, they went right through my strainer! You got me, Keurig. You got me!
For now, these are great helping my 2 year old with his education and keeping him on track with his developmental counting and stacking abilities. One, three, two…
So, as the only blogger without a Keurig, I’ll continue to wallow in my jealousy as I struggle through my messy, crunchy cup of joe every morning to make sure I have my caffeine fix so that I don’t do something regrettable to my kids. That is, unless Keurig wants to hook a girl up, because then, I can add to those 4,587 Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Email, RSS, StumbleUpon, and Pinterest posts! I’ll even shout it from the rooftops for an added bonus share!
Lisa, I do not know what I would do without my morning cup of coffee or three. And having a Keurig myself, I know how easy it is to make just one cup. I really hope your dreams come true soon.
Awwwww…. I wish I had the $$$ to buy you one!
Fingers crossed, toes, eyes, legs – you name it – so that you get one someday SOON!
I like to stack my K-cups too. 🙂
Tempted to start a kickstarter to hook you up!
Hey Lisa, I have been trying to win one of these coffee makers for a few years now. Just never have hit it yet, maybe some day! (I hope)
Reading this I actually feel bad owning a Keurig just for drinking tea. You make me want to box it up and send it to you. 🙂
You must get one! Save up your Amazon gift cards to get one, they add up quickly from networks like Mom Central. I don’t think I could live without mine.
The Keurig is, indeed, fabulous and worth being jealous over! We have one and I don’t even drink coffee…I use it for tea, though! The only thing is, need to run water through it between hubby’s coffee and my tea to avoid tea-that-tastes-like-coffee. But still…worth it!
