NewAir AI-150SS Countertop Ice Maker Review | #appliances
Now that the hubs and I have buckled down and started this 24 day weight loss challenge, we find ourselves drinking copious amounts of water. The problem is, our tap water is great, bu it’s just that. Plain, ground temperature tap water. Unless it’s bottled, drinking water isn’t that great without ice which makes it hard to swallow! When we moved our new fridge in, the waterline started leaking, so we haven’t been able to hook it up to the ice maker. With 6 people in the house, we go through small bag of ice in a day or two! That’s why I’m so thankful for our NewAir Ice Maker.
The NewAir AI-150SS Countertop Ice Maker makes up to 24 lbs of ice per day, and you will have enough for a glass or two of ice water in about 15 minutes.
It’s really simple to get started. You simply fill the chamber with water, turn the ice maker on, and walk away. The ice will dump into the tray when it’s ready, and once that fills up, the ice maker will beep at you to let you know when to dump it into your ice tray.
- Makes 24 lbs. of ice daily
- Compact countertop design
- Pullout ice drawer on the front
- Easy one-button control
- No installation required
In this review, I want you to know that I really enjoy having this ice maker on my countertop right next to my fridge. Because I’m home most of the time, it’s really easy for me to use, because I have the time to devote to going into the kitchen and dumping the ice. Please note that this is a POSITIVE review, however, it is an honest one.
Don’t be mistaken. This is not a freezer. Once the ice is made and falls into the tray, you’ll need to dump your tray periodically (the sooner the better) into your ice bin of your freezer to keep the ice frozen. Because it’s not a freezer, some of the ice will melt in the try if you do not dump it after it drops.
New Air Countertop Ice Maker produces approximately one inch rounded ice pellets, and they’re pretty soft, too, which is great for those of us with more sensitive teeth who like to chew on our ice! (Oh, and you don’t get that really loud annoying crunch sounds that usually goes along with eating ice, either!)
We have a system going to where the ice drops into the tray, and I will take it out, drain the excess water that has pooled in the tray (from melting ice) and dump it into a bowl and let it re-freeze and harden before dumping it into our ice bin so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of our ice bin in the freezer. It’s a bit cumbersome, and we have to babysit it all day, but as long as you’re ok with that, it’s a great little ice maker.
The only thing that I do that most other people won’t do is drain and change the water if don’t make ice in a 24 hour period. There’s just something about sitting water that bothers me when it comes to making the ice. So, because the water tank needs to be refilled when there is about 1/3 of the capacity left, you must drain the water if you turn the machine off for longer periods of time (unless you just trust your water to sit there… for days..)
I unplug the machine, remove the cord from the back of the machine, take the cap off of the drain, set a bowl in my pot holder (and straw, skewers, junk) drawer, and let it drain. I dump the water, screw the cap back on, turn it back around, plug it back in, refill, and start all over. It would be awesome if it would just use all of the water.
With each drain and refill routine, you demonstrate a keen understanding of the importance of proactive maintenance, a principle echoed in the comprehensive insights provided by a pat testing report. Just as you meticulously follow a step-by-step process to refresh your ice machine, a testing report offers a detailed roadmap for evaluating the electrical integrity of your appliances.
By leveraging the findings outlined in such reports, homeowners can make informed decisions about the upkeep of their devices, fostering a culture of accountability and reliability within their living spaces.
I’m really happy that I was sent the NewAir Countertop Ice Maker, because it totally beats having to head to the store to buy bags of ice every few days! We really do go through ice like crazy!

My cousin has a fridge without an ice maker and she’s been looking for something like this instead of always running out to buy bagged ice. Thanks so much for sharing!
The ice maker in our freezer went out so we usually end up buying ice at the store. The problem with that is that it has to be brought home and put away immediately or it melts. This would be a nice alternative to make ice cubes instead. (Yes, I know there are other alternatives but I hate those stupid traditional ice cube trays so I refuse to use them.) 🙂
I also drink copious amounts of water. This would definitely come in handy.
I have to have my water crazy cold or I can’t drink it. They need to make a version to make this freeze it too.
I love to chew on ice, but really shouldn’t. I am intrigued that those are soft ice cubes/pellets. I could have my ice and eat it, too.
What a great idea! I always forget to refill my ice trays before parties, LOL. I need this!
I totally need something like this. Our built in ice maker runs out every few hours.
Looks like a good item to have for holidays or parties when you need a lot of ice at the moment!
I can’t stand using ice but my husband can’t drink anything without it. I’m grateful we have a built-in ice maker in our freezer because that machine seems like a pain for every day use, but it does seem awesome for parties!
How awesome! I want an ice maker!
My ice maker in my fridge hasn’t worked in almost 2 years… THIS is what I need!
