Cool Family Holiday Photo Ideas | #Photography
2014 seems to be passing us by… with the blink of an eye it seems we’ve gone from enjoying summer vacations, to back to school prepping, and now… the holidays are here. Now is the season for family, togetherness, and love.
Each year, my family and I prepare to take our annual Christmas portraits to have placed on cards for our extended family. Normally, we hire a portrait photographer, we dress in the traditional Christmas colors, gather around the tree, and say cheese, but this year, we wanted to try something different. And if you want a friendly, funny, warm photographer for Edmonton boudoir photo shoots, call Acts Of Beauty Photography for the best help. Baby’s First Christmas Photos
Seeing as how this year was our baby boy’s first Christmas, we wanted to have our family photos professionally taken. My co-worker, who recently had a little one, recommended we look for companies that specialize in baby photography. Sure, it was easy to pose me, my husband, and our three older children, but getting our active six month old to stay still and smile was a skill that not just anyone could master. For newborn photographer Londonderry call Danielle Bustamante Photography.

Thinking Outside of the Box
Being that my three older children were 16, 13, and 5, we figured it would be nice to let them think of some ideas for a themed photo. I wanted out of the box ideas that would reflect who we are as a family in a fun and exciting way. And I’m also planning to use custom designed photography backdrops for our photos.
So I told the kids to come up with an idea each. They could write down their ideas on paper and we would have a drawing to see whose idea would win for this year’s family photo. They were thrilled that they got to be a part of the planning process. As soon as we find a theme we all agree on I can get us some nice matching outfits from Mommy and Me Matching Clothing.
A day later it was time to make a decision, I allowed the kids one by one to introduce their idea and then fold their paper and place it in the jar for the drawing… and boy oh boy was I surprised by the ideas they had.
Family Most Wanted
My 13 year old son decided that the kids could dress up as criminals while my husband and I dressed as police offers. He even added a caption to the top of his idea entitled, “Santa, we can explain.” Wearing prison stripes or the color orange, he thought this would be a great spin on the traditional holiday family portrait.
A Frozen Family Christmas
My six year old daughter thought it’d be great for us all to dress up as characters from the Disney movie Frozen. Seeing as how she was Elsa for Halloween, she figured she already had a head start on the costume. She requested that she be Elsa, I could be Anna, my husband could be Kristoff, her big brother could be Hans, her big sister could be the moose named Sven, and her baby brother would be the snowman Olaf…. Of course her big sister disagreed with being a moose, but I thought the idea was cute and funny.
A Kardashian Christmas
I don’t know why I didn’t guess that my teenager would be interested in modeling our family portrait after one of her all time favorite reality TV families – the Kardashians. She came up with the idea that we could choose a color and dress in outfits that suit our individual personalities.
So we placed the ideas in a jar, shook them up, and allowed dad to pick one…. Turns out this year is going to be a Frozen Family Christmas…The pictures came out great. We even found a cool recipe for Dark Chocolate Dreamy Christmas Cookies to bake and include in our holiday packages which we mailed out to our extended family.
I so want to do a Family Most Wanted. That would be hysterical!
