February is definitely a Disney month in the BTK household!    All month, we prepare for The Entertainer’s birthday party which has a Disney Side theme!  A couple of weeks ago, I decided to go through the list of Disney movies for ideas, and there were some movies that I’d either forgotten about or had no idea that they were even Disney movies!

We decided to take that list and turn to Netflix for ideas and much-needed refreshers on Disney movies of the past. And who knows, we might even explore some movie prop auctions to find unique memorabilia related to our favorite Disney films!

Did you know that Fantasia came out in 1940, and then in 2000, Disney restored it and came out with Fantasia 2000?   You can find both of these brilliant animations on Netflix!

If you prefer receiving Netflix DVDs, you can get both the 1951 and 2010 Alice and Wonderland versions sent to you in the mail!  They are not currently available for streaming, bu they’re both great family movies.  (There are actual several non-Disney versions available via DVD as well!)

Although not on Netflix, in 1952, Disney released The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men which was a live action film, but in 1973, the infamous animated Robin Hood version was released!

Can’t forget one of my all time favorites – 1957 Old Yeller. This is a classic that will never be able to be duplicated!  If your kiddos (or you) haven’t seen it, it’s a great, live action movie for any age!

Another one of my all time favorites that actually has many of the same characters as Old Yeller is the 1960 live action version of Swiss Family Robinson.  It’s about a family who is shipwrecked on a tropical island, and they’re forced to stay and build a home for themselves.  I love this movie!

So one of the movies that I had no idea was actually a Disney movie was A Watcher in the Woods.  This movie is where my love for scary movies began in the 80s!  Although you can’t stream it on Netflix, they do have it in the DVD version.

No sooner does an all-American family take possession of a baronial English manor when all manner of peculiar things occur, including signs that point to the disappearance of a young girl during a solar eclipse decades before. Bette Davis stars as the woman who spends all her days searching the dense woods for her missing daughter. Lynn-Holly Johnson co-stars in Disney’s suspenseful take on haunted houses.

We get so caught up in the newest releases that we often forget about the gems of the past!  I encourage you to go through Netflix to find your favorite movies of the past and sit and watch them with your family and friends!

You’re never too old for Disney!
