Getting Kids Involved in Spring Cleanup
With the last of the snow melting away, the time for spring clean up has come. It doesn’t just have to be a job for mom and dad however. Kids can easily get involved with the spring clean up and it can even be fun!
The level of yard work will definitely depend on the area that you live in. While kids can’t use branch trimmers or clippers, there are things that they can do to help out. While you rake out the dead leaves and foliage, kids can put gloves on and put the waste in either the compost pile or a paper bag.
Younger kids can pick up dead sticks on the lawn and help bag dead or damaged branches that you’ve pruned. Most children love playing with sticks and may even find a few treasures in the process!
In many areas, the snow will have washed away the mulch around trees and shrubs, and energetic kids will love helping to place new mulch around the trees and shrubbery. It’s a pretty easy task to do as well.
Older kids can help pull dead annual plants and put top soil down to help make the beds comfy for new plants. They can also help you put grass seed down and teenagers can help repaint fences. On the other hand, you can do some tree trimming or lawn maintenance tasks. However, for more challenging tasks like removing dead trees that may require assistance of tree services, one needs a professional tree removal service.
Everyone can make a trip to the local nursery to pick out flowers, kids especially love being able to pick out their own plant and will be more interested in helping with the weeding during the summer if the plants are their own.
And of course, everyone loves being able to help plant the flowers. Whether you’re planting them in window boxes, pots, or a flower bed, the littlest kids especially love helping to dig the holes and pushing dirt around the newly planted flowers.
There are so many ways to make spring cleanup a family event. It doesn’t have to be left to one person!
