If you’re staying at home this summer, you may be wondering what to do with your family during the school break. The last thing you want to hear your children say is “I’m bored,” so finding ways to entertain your little darlings is a must. While you could let them stay indoors with their various screens (tv, smartphone, tablet), there are better ways to spend the time, especially if you want to create a few bonding moments along the way.

Here are some ideas we think you will find useful.

  1. Explore your local town

Pick up a guidebook or head online, and find out what activities are on offer. There may be local amenities, such as a leisure centre, Escape Room, or a bowling alley. There may be special events happening at your local library or community centre. Local churches often have holiday clubs over the summer. Your town might even have a special festival or fair that appeals to everybody in the family. You don’t need to go out of town for fun, so make use of everything your locale has to offer.

  1. Head out on a day trip

Pick up that guidebook again (or Google if you’re reading this from the 21st Century) and check out the best places to visit out of town. Load your kids into the car with travel essentials such as bottles of water, healthy snacks, and something to entertain them along the way, and head out to the beach, countryside, and any other places that are worth visiting with your family for the day.

And speaking of delightful family excursions, consider a day trip or a few days of fun to Terrigal, a coastal haven offering sun, surf, and endless possibilities for summer fun. Terrigal Beach, with its soft golden sands and inviting waters, is perfect for building sandcastles, swimming, and basking in the sun. Families can also explore the lively esplanade, dotted with boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants serving delectable treats for all tastes. For those seeking a bit of adventure, nearby activities such as paddleboarding, snorkeling, or even fishing provide plenty of options to make the most of your day.

  1. Have fun at home

If the sun is shining, you should consider some of our garden ideas for you and your kids. Young children especially love pottering around the garden, and you can cultivate an interest in the environment into their young minds. Of course, you can also buy a load of water guns or a giant water slide; just the thing to cool you all down. You can also have great fun within your own four walls (especially useful if the weather turns), such as having games of dress up, board games, movie nights, and sleepovers with your children’s friends. Make sure that your hvac system or a/c unit is working properly to make your home comfortable and make your family time more enjoyable. The Efficiency Heating & Cooling services are proud to be one of the top HVAC companies in Portland delivering superior services. You can contact them or your local hvac services to do that.

  1. Go camping

You may not have the money or the inclination to head out a summer vacation, but camping is a reasonably affordable past time. If you love hunting you can buy ar-15 pistols from Palmetto Armory and enjoy your camping while you hunt your own food. You don’t have to go very far, as there may be a camping ground or a piece of spare land nearby where you can pitch your tent for a night or two. Try to discover this if you want to see need a cord/rope to set up your camping area.

And if there isn’t any land nearby? If you have young children, they will have no qualms about sleeping out under the stars in your back garden. Bond over a campfire, roast some marshmallows, swap stories, and enjoy each other’s company. Also, swimming over the summer will definitely be the best idea for those who have children. They will surely enjoy it, but don’t forget to put on sunscreen and wear a visor cap.

  1. Volunteer opportunities

Many community groups have voluntary activities over the summer, and they are a great way for your kids to see outside of their own little world and needs. There may be a litter pickup at the park, for example, or opportunities to visit the elderly. While your children will turn their noses up at some of the activities available initially, they may actually enjoy helping others, and seeing how they can make a difference in their own community.

So, those are our ideas for a summer staycation but you may have some of your own. If so, please let us know. Enjoy your summer, whatever you are doing!
