Popcorn? Check. Nail polish? Check. High heels? No way! We all like to go out with our mates, but sometimes it’s best to kick off our shoes and have a girls’ night in. In this article you’ll find 10 tips for preparing a relaxed but fun get together right in your own living room. Whoever invented the concept of “party” probably did it bearing a stone platterful of aurochs heart canapés. Part of hosting a gathering is providing something to…

You’ve got it all wrong, Hawk! | #books #reading #readingrocks

Hawk is participating in the Reading Rocks program at school.  Basically, they have one month (?) to read 50 books.  Each time he reads a book, he has to log it with the date, title, and who read it. The program is designed to get the kiddos interested in reading by themselves and with family members. Last night, I was sitting on the couch, reading The Cat in the Hat to Hawk.  I could tell that he was getting a little antsy, like he'd rather be doing something else. I was right in the middle of the Cat bring in…

Piggy Paint Nail Polish Review – Natural as Mud! | Giveaway (4/8)

Kylie loves to paint nails.  She's been dubbed quite the nail artist in our small town.  Anywhere she visits, she's either pulling out her nail polish, looking through someone else's stash.  Sadly, she's not allowed to paint her (or my) nails in the house, because the smell gives my husband a headache.  That all changed when the Piggy Paint came in! odorless | hypoallergenic | water-based | hard, durable finish When she opened the box, the first thing I told her was that it doesn't smell - at all.  Immediately, she wanted to get her homework done, so that she…

Moshi Monsters Character Encyclopedia Review & Giveaway | #MoshiMonsters

Until last month, I'd never heard of Moshi Monsters.  I'm so eager to get my kiddos thinking of things other than Legos and Star Wars, that I put just about anything else in their hands! (Instagram Photobomb!) What are Moshi Monsters, you ask?  Well, I had to ask that, too.  When I received the Moshi Monsters Character Encyclopedia, I took a look at it before my boys got their grubby little hands on it, and found this cute little intro: Welcome to the gloopendous world of Moshi Monsters, a weird and wonderful place brimming with crazy critters of all shapes…

The Computer Teacher from the Black Lagoon Review | #readingrocks

I'm not sure if it's all schools or just Barbers Hill, but Hawk has this thing called "Reading Rocks", and they have to read 50 books in a certain amount of time to be able to go to a "Reading Rocks" party.  It's designed to get kids used to, and enjoy, reading books with their family members. This time, we dropped the ball.  Even though Hawk has read numerous books in the last couple of months, we haven't really thought about writing them down.  It wasn't until the night before last that we realized that he only had like eight…

Mommy’s Bliss Sweet Slumber Review | #review #baby

When you think about Mommy's Bliss products, I'm pretty sure that the first thing that comes to mind is the Gripe Water.  It was with me.  Because we used the Gripe Water with Jett when he was younger, Mommy's Bliss is a brand we trust.  When I learned about Mommy's Bliss Sweet Slumber line, I just had to try it out.  I had no idea that they had more than just Gripe Water. Jett is at the age where he's into everything.  At 18 months old, he's very active, and it takes him a while to get settled down when…

Winter jackets for girls track meets?! Come on, #Spring! | #weather

I read a few posts, on Facebook and in my news apps, that Punxsutawney Phil was being indicted for lying about Spring being right around the corner!  Not too long after that, I saw a meme that said something along the lines of "Spring needs to man up and show Winter who's boss!" Seriously. It's April, and Winter is still trying to hang around, even in the south.  We've had crazy cool temperatures here, the past couple of days, and although I like it, I'm kinda ready for Spring to move in.  Never, would we have thought, that we'd have…

Real Men Don’t Leave Jobs for Family Reasons — or Do They?

According to the Census Bureau, in the first decade of the 21st century the number of stay-at-home dads more than doubled from 81,000 to 176,000. Also, 45 percent of family caregivers are now male. 40 percent of people caring for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients are male as well. The image of “male as breadwinner” took a beating during the Great Recession of 2008 when twice as many men lost jobs as women. Societal changes have also had an influence, leading males to pursue alternatives that allow them to spend more time with their families. Unfortunately, many employers view the Family…

Jett and his Papa! | #toddlers #grandparents #love

Here is a picture of Papa (my dad) and his youngest grandson.  Jett is number seven for Mimi and Papa, and daddy is just as much in love with this one as he is the others.   His patience runs thin with the kiddos pretty quickly, and he runs out of gas faster now that he used to, but for those precious moments that he devotes undivided attention to one grandkid at a time, I cherish them (and snap a pic!).  He works so much, these times are few and far between.
