Embracing Homeschool: First Day of Pre-K

The following is part of our new guest series called Embracing Homeschool by Lourdes Resendez.  Lourdes is a mom of four as well as a birth doula, midwife assistant, and childbirth educator. Elijah turned 4 this summer and after her spent time at nursery bolton, I had made a decision a while back to keep him home and homeschool him. While many of our friends were completing registration and getting things in order to send their littles to pre-k school, I was doing research about how to educate a 4 year old at home. Through my research I found lists…

Kid’s Message about Over-Eating | Weight Loss is Easy

We all know that we can learn a thing or two just by listening to our kiddos, but have you ever had one of those "AH-HA" moments by sitting and watching TV with your little ones? Not all children's programing is mindless.  Today, after watching an episode of Mickey Mouse Club House with Jett, one of those little Disney shorts came on that I've never seen before.  It was really cute, so I decided to watch before changing to another episode for him. It was Sam Sandwich and Kid Broccoli with a message that isn't only for the little ones…

BabiLovLinks Review – Jewerly for Mom and Curious Babies | Giveaway (10/10)

If you're a nursing mom, you know that when your nursling starts actually holding on to things, nursing your little one becomes a little less sweet and a little irritating! You know what I'm talking about.  That's right.  When the scratching and pinching starts, you know you've got to have something for a distraction.  Jett is almost 2, and just because he knows better than to scratch me when he's nursing, doesn't meant that he still doesn't do it!  Lately, he's started gently rubbing with his fingertips while forming a fist.  It doesn't hurt at all, but on extra sensitive…

Motorola Talkabout MT350R Review – Great for Emergency Preparedness

Hurricane season is in full swing, and although we haven't had any worrisome disturbances hit the Texas coast, it doesn't hurt to be prepared. We've had our fair share of pretty tough weather in the Houston area, and now that our family has moved closer to the bay, of course, hurricanes are definitely a threat.  When Hurricane Rita came in 2005, and Hurricane Ike came through in 2008, this area was affected by the storms. If you're in a hurricane zone, all I can advise is to be prepared -- and don't rely on your cell phones!  I'm so glad…

Chicco Red Bullet Balance Bike Review

Not too long ago, one of my neighbors paid another one of my neighbors (teenager) to teach his son how to ride his bike.  He learned in about 10 minutes, so it was pretty much a quick payday for the teenager!  However, we still have several little ones in the neighborhood to teach to ride a bike, and we'll either have to do it ourselves or go broke fairly quickly. One of the products that we've found is a great help at a really early age is the Chicco Red Bullet Balance Bike to help them learn how to balance…

bluum Monthly Boxes for Moms and Kiddos Review

It seems like every time I turn around, there's a new "box of the month" site that pops up.  Just this weekend, Andy was telling me that they even have them for adults!  It's a really neat concept, if you think about it.  You pay a monthly fee, the company sends you a box with stuff you probably wouldn't have even thought about buying,  and you're instantly turned on to new brands!  Genius. At first, I was skeptical, but when my box showed up, I was really excited to see all of the great (and yummy) stuff that came in…

Sophie la girafe Book Series Debut! Review & #Giveaway (10/2)

When Jett was born, we decided that his favorite animal was going to be a giraffe!  I loved all of the giraffe things that were out, and it became the theme for him.  All of his shirts, toys, cloth diapers, blankets, etc., that we found had giraffes on them. At about 2 months old, one of our friends gave him a Sophie the Giraffe teether.  I really didn't see the big deal about this toy until it actually arrived.  It quickly became Jett's favorite toy as well as mine.  Sophie is so soft, and it's just a great teething toy…

Flip Hybrid Cloth Diaper System Review | #flipdiapers #clothdiapers

I teach a cloth diapering basics class, and one of the most commonly asked questions is "What is your favorite type of diaper?"   Without hesitation, I always answer, "I love the Flip Diaper System."  I love that it's trim, affordable, and best of adjustable from 8-35 pounds (which adds to it's affordability!).  Imagine my excitement when this package landed on my doorstep! When I first started cloth diapering many, many years ago, one of the downsides was the bulk.  I can remember that my mom hated holding my babies because their rear ends seemed so disproportionate to the rest of…
