Budgeting for Kids – The Birds and the Coupons – #finance
Because younger kids and teenagers don’t pay bills, they understandably can't comprehend the value of a dollar. Cut to: them constantly asking their parents for money. Maybe this scenario sounds uncomfortably familiar and you give your kids money each time they ask. Unfortunately, this behavior doesn’t teach healthy money skills. Although your kids won’t be financially independent until the future, it’s never too early to start teaching them budgeting for kids and saving skills. 1. Look for loose change. Get a jar or piggy bank for your younger kids and have them collect loose change in these containers. They might…
Spring has broken… Battle of the Numbers
Spring has broken, and we're already off to a great start in the Johnston household. The boys are having a battle of the numbers, this morning, for some reason. Hawk: Count to 100 by 10's. Brax: Count to 400 by 2's. Hawk: Count to 400 by 6's. () Hawk: I did it 155 times. Brax: I did it 100% of the time. Hawk: I did it infinity. Well played, Hawk. Well played.
Can we wear white yet? Still black? Fashion Police? Who Cares?!
This morning, when I got up to get ready for church, I was torn on what to wear. I'm not really that big on fashion, or what time of year you wear what colors, but this morning, I struggled! Today, the time changed. We had to spring forward, so the whole "Spring" thing was going on in my mind. Yesterday, it was windy, but pretty warm. We worked in the yard and actually broke a sweat, so that was going through my mind. Today, when I got up, it was the same temperature. I picked up a nice shirt and…
Happy Birthday, Kylie Adrianne!
This isn't the picture she wanted me to use, but I think it's cute anyway! Happy 14th birthday to the first person to make me a mother, Kylie Adrianne. I love you. 3/7/99 - 4:58am - 7 lb, 14 oz - in
VeggieTales: The Little House That Stood Review & #Giveaway (3/20)
gotta VeggieTales. When VeggieTales first came out, I loved, because they had a Larry and Bob. We have always called my dad Larry Bob. It was kinda cool to look at this new Christian animation concept and think, "hey, those are my dad's names!" But in reality, it was great to have fun and interesting figures turn into silly role models, for our kids, right before our eyes. I'm always amazed, and excited, to see what new and off the wall ways that Big Idea, Inc. comes up with to portray the stories and parables from the Bible. VeggieTales: The…
Kylie’s First Track Meet | #Track Star #running
Kylie had her first track meet on Monday! Yes it was in the New Jersey Half Marathon. Although she had no idea what to expect, she did so well! I wish that they would let us move in closer for photos on the track, but we were pretty much bound to the stands. I did get video, but it wasn't that great, so this is the best I could do for a photo. She ran third leg on the 800m relay and she ran the 200m dash. The relay came in second, and Kylie came in first in her heat. We…
Phone call from principal made my heart drop!
As a mom of four, I want nothing else than to see my kids to well and succeed in school and life. It's often a struggle for the baby of the family to become the big brother, so we were really worried about how well Hawk would do when he started school this year. Surprisingly enough, he has been doing SO well. My little lazy, whiny, snaggle-toothed, mama's boy has amazed us all year long. At the last parent/teacher conference, his teacher told Andy that he's already exceeded all of the expectations for Kindergarten for the year (and it was…
Couch to 5k Day 3 – Week 1 COMPLETE! | #c25k #running #workout
Couch to 5k Day 3 was almost non-existent! On Saturday morning at 5:15am, which would have been Day 3, I got a call from a mama who was in labor. She rocked that labor, though, and had her baby, natural, by 8:07, and after I left the hospital, I went to see my bestie and her new baby! I didn't get home until 3pm, rested a little, and went to our Rode0-Cook Off at church. On Sunday, we had church and the finale of the Rodeo Cook-Off. When we got home, I crashed for 2 hours (blissful, uninterrupted sleep!) and…
Couch to 5k Day 2 | #c25k #running #workout
Couch to 5k Day Two was a little harder fro me. Jett went down for two naps, but for both of them, he woke up before I could go out and jump on my treadmill. So, I decided to use an app and do a walk/run in place for Day Two. You think it's easy, but it's pretty hard to keep a pace when you're basically standing still with a 16 month old biting your ankles. Without the timer on my treadmill to help me keep track of my seconds walking and jogging, I decided to use an app on…
