I am Houstonian. I don’t do 21 degrees.. well.

I'm not really whining.  I think it's cool that it's colder than a half gallon of Blue Bell out there! I can take the cold bamboo floors, letting the faucets drip, the drafty fans above the toilets, and the fact that every time we have to open the front door, it totally undoes the work I've put in to keeping the house warm. What I can't handle is the cold little feet that wake me up out of a great, warm sleep, because Hawk thinks it's funny to raise the back of my shirt to keep his feet warm on…

Meatless Monday: Veggie Stir Fry on the Cheap!

Meatless Monday – one day a week, cut out meat. Tonight, we're going to have some wonderful veggie stir fry served on top of some beautifully tasty jasmine rice. Our friends, Anne and Scott (and kidlets) have moved.  Sad day, yes, however, we became the recipients of their pantry clean out, and let me tell I don't think I've ever known anyone else to buy jasmine rice in bulk.  We have at least 20 pounds of rice in our pantry.  Thank you, guys! The even better part is, this meal is only going to cost us about $5 for the entire family!…

Congratulations! Author: Veronica Garrett Comment: I signed up for the Granola Gourmet Newsletter. I like that the products are 100% natural. Granola Gourmet -  Energy Bars for Everyone! It's pretty hard to pass up energy bars that claim to be for everyone, including athletes and diabetics.  When I first ran across Granola Gourmet, I thought it would be great to try this out and introduce to my health and fitness readers, but as I learned more about the company, I learned that they produce more than great tasting and energizing granola bars. This year, why not go really big, and have them help you personalize their very own Valentines Day cards!  You can even add their photos! Stranger Danger: Would you know a Child Abduction if you saw it?

Child Abductions: Would you ignore it and keep walking? If you were walking along a busy street, and a child yelling "Help!  You're not my dad!", was being pulled away by a grown man?  Think about that for a second.  Now, what would you do if the man was talking or yelling back to the child, saying something like, "Hey, where were you young lady?" or "Your mother and I have been looking for you!"  Would you keep walking?  Would you watch to make sure the child really IS his?  Would you call 911? Would you confront the man? We…

YourSphere Fun, Free, Social Network for Kids, Preteens, and Teens

Not too long ago, Brandy from introduced me to a wonderful, free, social networking site for kids called YourSphere. One of the main reasons that I was extremely interested in YourSphere, was because Kylie was begging for a Facebook account, and I refused.  YourSphere is completely free, and a great place for her to be online and safe at the same time. Now that she is on YourSphere, she has met other friends with similar interests, and she hasn't asked for a Facebook account again. A big factor, when deciding on YourSphere as a social network for my preteen is…

Chilean Miners are Mickey Bound!

Chilean Miners are Mickey Bound My heart has a special place for these guys and their families.  I remember sitting, for hours, watching the CNN feed of their rescue!  I wans't as focused on the miners as I was focused on the faces and body language of their family members once they were pulled out of that tube. Guess who is going to DISNEY WORLD?  According to the Associated Press, 31 of the 33 Chilean miners, their families, and four rescue workers are headed to see Mickey in a party of about 160 people this week.
