When your breastfeeding struggle is real…

As a mom of four and a professional doula, I am a huge advocate of breastfeeding. I truly believe it offers the best possible start in life for your baby. It provides all the nutrients needed at exactly the right temperature for your little one to digest. Best of all, it provides that all-important bonding experience that only mother and child can share.   So what happens when your breastfeeding struggle is real? Many women find breastfeeding hard, and that's understandable.  As a new mom (or even an experienced breastfeeding mom), there are many reasons for nursing to be a…

Sarah Wells Breast Pump Bag – Stylish, Professional, Versatile | #breastfeeding

When Jett was smaller and he was still exclusively or mainly breastfed, one of the hardest parts about being away from him for long periods of time was having to lug the breast pump bag around as well as my purse or whatever other bag I was carrying.  I'm pretty big on streamlining, and traditional pump bags make that impossible.  The Sarah Wells Breast Pump Bag makes it so much easier for me to carry everything I need like this Tricare Breast Pump in one bag without the hassle! I can remember my very first birth to attend as an…

Milk Sharing – How this precious gift helped my family. | #breastfeeding

When you think of Milk Sharing, what's the first thing that pops into your mind?  Eww, maybe?  Gross?  For me, the first thing I think is that, in our lives, it's truly been a life saver. When Braxton was little, I had supply issues because, unknown to me, his care providers were sneaking him formula because they did not think that breastmilk was sufficient.  I was uneducated about breastfeeding at the time and did not know what was going on.  I wish, now, that I'd have known more about breastfeeding and milk sharing once I realized the issue.  By the…

Dollywood is #Breastfeeding Friendly! | #Brandcation

Being a nursing mom, I'm always on the look out for places that have accommodations for moms who breastfeed.  Aside from the awesome hospitality, Dollywood is breastfeeding friendly! When we arrived, Jenn from asked me if I noticed the nursing stations located around the park, and I went out on a mission to find them!   To my surprise, located in the bathroom area, I found a cozy little room with a comfy glider rocker in the air conditioning with a door that said "Nursing Room". On a side note, it was awesome to see some babywearing dads while I…

Big Latch On – Friday & Saturday – World Breastfeeding Week 2012 | #breastfeeding

If you can muddle through all of the Chick-Fil-A posts on facebook to see the support for breastfeeding, you've probably figured out that it's World Breastfeeding Week. One of the major events that happens, each year, during World Breastfeeding Week, is The Big Latch On. Groups of women gather in registered locations around the world to simultaneously latch on their babies to breastfeed for one minute to set a record. Is it all about the record?  No, not really, but it's a great way to help draw people in to support breastfeeding and spread the word.  In 2011, 5687 women and…

Happy World Breastfeeding Week! | #breastfeeding

Happy World Breastfeeding Week! Here are a few breastfeeding facts: Your milk is tailor made for your baby. Most babies digest breastmilk faster and easier than formula or any other types of milk. Breastfeeding saves you money! When you breastfeed your baby, you lower your risk breast and ovarian cancer. It's ok to breastfeed your baby for longer than 6 months.  It's even ok for you to breastfeed your toddler for longer than 2 years! Breastmilk is premixed, so that you know your baby is getting all the nutrition he/she needs. You can continue to breastfeed after returning to work.

Do you breastfeed in public? | #breastfeeding #nip (as in Nurse in Public)

I am pro breastfeeding. I am pro breastfeeding in public. I've always been cool with anyone breastfeeding in public, and I used to have little cards with the Texas law on them that I'd hand out to women I'd see nursing in public, just in case they ever get into a situation where they're asked to stop or leave a public area. Something I've probably mentioned before is that I've even breastfed my babies at Astros games with 40,000 people around and no one had a clue. In Texas, you're allowed to nurse your baby anywhere you're allowed to be…
