Day 7: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
Yay! We made it through seven days of flat cloth diapers and handwashing and drying. It's been a long week, but that is totally unrelated to diapering! The main thing that I've learned during this old school week of diapering is that it's not really that hard. Although I see why cloth diapers have evolved into the modern styles that we have, I also see that if we didn't have a choice, flats aren't really that bad! Here are a few things that I've learned during this week. Flats are fun, and we'll probably use them a lot more often!…
Day 6: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
Truth be told, all of Jett's AIOs, Pockets, Fitteds, and Prefolds are in storage! We just have too big of a stash to bring to my parents' house while we wait on the closing of our home. It's not always easy to live in someone else's house and cloth diaper, especially if they're not 100% behind you using their washer and dryer for diapers (we don't have that problem here, mom has offered her machine up!!). The good news is, this flat challenge came at a great time, because it's so easy to wash and dry these diapers upstairs in…
Day 5: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
This is the third night, this week, that the water has gone out. My mom called, and they said they were sending a technician, but they had no idea why the neighborhood keeps losing water. The main thing I've learned this week is to wash early! Once everyone gets home from school and work, starts cooking dinner and getting showers, there's a good possibility that we're losing water!! Today's Flat Lineup! In all seriousness, though, the main two things that I've learned during this challenge are: I don't really have to pack my entire diaper stash when I head out…
Day 4: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
One of the things that we were discussing yesterday on our local Flats & Handwashing page is how, for the most part, we love the challenge, and we'll more than likely continue to use flats. While the handwashing part isn't all that bad, it's the general consensus that we'll probably stick to our washers and dryers once we're done! I definitely don't mind handwashing right now, for this week, but once it's over, it will be nice to have a break. I am thankful that I have a washer and dryer for the days that I just don't have much…
Day 3: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
Well, the good news we have water tonight! We didn't lose pressure like we did last night! Of all weeks to lose water, two nights in a row, we lose it during the flats challenge!! We shall persevere! I like to use flats a couple of ways! I like the origami fold when I'm looking for a quick fold that I don't have to think about. I think it's because I'm more used to folding this way. I also like to use the kite fold, but for some reason, I always have to take a look an already folded diaper,…
Day 2: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
Day two of the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge went much like day one!! I was able to get yesterday's set of dirty diapers washed this morning when the water was back on, and started on my way to a day of flats and covers again! Low and behold, right after dinner tonight, the SAME thing happened with the water! All of a sudden, there was very little water pressure, and we had to wait forever for just enough water to get about an inch worth to bathe the boys! I guess I will be washing today's set in…
Day 1: Flats and Handwashing Challenge – #flatschallenge #clothdiapers
Today marked the beginning of the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge! I decided to take part in the flat challenge because I wanted to pay homage to our fore-mothers. We spend so much time searching for the diapers that's going to be the easiest to put on, the fastest to wash and dry, the easiest for our husbands and care givers. But really, having to handwash flat diapers and covers really isn't that much more of a challenge (when you have a exclusively breastfed baby) than using modern cloth diapers and machines. If you really stop and think about it, cloth diapering isn't…
